The roles and responsibilities of this role include:
The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in the University, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum.
Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry.
In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories.
Mentor students during practical learning activities to enhance their technical problem-solving skills. The learning activities may be laboratory classes, projects or IWSP. Development of learning activities and assessment of students may form part of the responsibilities.
Support research and industrial project work were undertaken by the university, where the opportunity arises.
Work with the faculty in designing, planning and the continuous development of the laboratory facilities designated for teaching and research activities in the area. Provide training to students on the use of laboratory equipment.
Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
For those hired at senior levels, management responsibilities may be included.
In order to be successful for this role, the candidate must possess the following competencies and experience:
A degree in Physiotherapy or related discipline. Possessing a Master’s degree, PhD degree and relevant certifications will be an added advantage.
Have at least 10 years of work experience in relevant setting such as hospitals, physiotherapy clinics, community-based setting, long-term care or skilled nursing facilities.
Knowledge and experience in working with people with a range of conditions, including those who have physical disabilities, mental or social problems.
Possess practice knowledge on administration and application of various physiotherapy assessment tools.
Have deep, hands-on competence in the areas of psychosocial domain of health involving in physiotherapy.
Extensive experience and knowledge of industry practices to bring industry perspective to SIT.
Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems.
Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment.
Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possess industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage.
