As a Professional Officer, you play a key role in enabling applied learning and industry innovation in the University. You will mentor and facilitate student learning to enhance their technical problem-solving skills and increase their preparedness for industry. You will have the opportunity to participate in and manage innovation projects or research activities in collaboration with academic staff and industry partners. You will help design, set up and manage laboratories to ensure that resources are in place to facilitate learning and innovation.
In this role, you will be maintaining and teaching in the Human Performance Lab. Your broad knowledge in human performance assessment, exercise prescription, will be instrumental in helping Allied Health students grasp concepts in the Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology modules. Prior experience in Isokinetic Dynamometry, Electromyography, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) or Motion Capture equipment would be an advantage. The responsibilities of this role are:
Mentor students during practical learning activities to enhance their technical problem-solving skills. The learning activities may be laboratory classes, final year projects or IWSP. Development of learning activities and assessment of students may form part of the responsibilities.
Support research and industry project work undertaken by the university, where opportunity arises.
Work with the faculty in designing, planning and the continuous development of the laboratory facilities designated for teaching and research activities in the area. Provide training to students on usage of laboratory equipment.
Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
For those hired at senior levels, management responsibilities may be included.
The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:
Have deep, hands-on competence in the areas of Sports Science, Kinesiology, and Exercise Physiology.
Have at least 10 years of work experience in relevant settings such as, hospitals sports rehabilitation clinics or backroom staff for professional sports team, hospitals
Have a Degree in Sports Science or equivalent from a recognised University Possessing a Masters or PhD degree will be advantageous
Passionate about training, coaching, and mentoring students.
Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
Flexibility to work across functions/teams as part of a team in a dynamic environment
Self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development
Proficient in technical writing & presentation of research they have collaborated in
Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Show strong initiative and take ownership of work
