The Middleware and Platform Associate Director is a technical leadership role responsible for the operational sustainability and technology change of the middleware platform and databases. You will lead a team of high-performing engineers and build strong partnership with various applications function groups within the IT organization.

The responsibilities of this role are:
  • Establish platform strategy and design to achieve desired future-state IT infrastructure for the organization.
  • Identify trends and emerging issues impacting our service delivery and, where necessary, make recommendation on alternative courses of action or to rectify the issues promptly.
  • Lead projects, plan, implement and manage a stable, highly secure and agile platform. Platform could be deployed on-premises or on cloud.
  • Collaborate and work closely with domain experts from infrastructure, applications and security expert to integrate pertinent requirements, priorities and best practices into platform and database operational processes.
  • Establish operational strategy and effective vendor management to ensure our operational vendor deliver the services according to Service Level Agreement (SLA), adhere to the University quality expectation, address our stakeholders requirement timely, aligning their objective towards the University operational excellence and providing values visible to our stakeholders.
  • Proactive in addressing stakeholders needs of platform deployment, security and operational support requirement leveraging on operational vendors or other alternative resources taking into consideration the cost effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Conduct capacity planning, platform performance analysis and optimization, introduce improvements and enhancement to existing platform and processes.
  • Provide technical solution, design best practices, budgetary and operational recommendations to project team involved in feasibility study, POC or implementation of their solution using University IT on premise or cloud infrastructure.
  • Acquire, allocate and optimise the use of team resources.
  • Develop learning roadmaps to support the professional development of the team.
  • Monitor and track the team’s achievements and key performance indicators.
  • Plan procurement schedule, develop technical requirement specifications and carry out procurement activities to ensure required solution and software is
    procured successfully and timely.
  • Oversee the operation of middleware, platform administration, manage platform changes through change request process, respond promptly to incident, provide root cause analyses and proactively implement corrective action to improve middleware and platform infrastructure performance, availability and security.

The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:
  • A relevant university degree with at least 12 years of relevant working experience. 
  • At least 8 years of relevant experiences in solutioning, application server architecture, design and implementing middleware, databases and platform.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experiences in managing teams and outsource vendor.
  • Familiar with infrastructure and applications deployment, IT service management processes, tools and methodologies.
  • Exposure to Middleware, Business Intelligence, Content Management System and web server platform engineering design, operation and security management.
  • Good knowledge of infrastructure architecture including storage, virtualisation, public cloud, network and backup.
  • More than 5 years’ of support or implementation hand on experience in JBOSS, .NET, Weblogic, Apache, Wordpress, Sitefinity and IIS.
  • Knowledge and implementation experience of Web Services, both SOAP and REST.\
  • Knowledge of XML, Python and PowerShell.
  • Practical hand on experience with UNIX and Windows administration skills.
  • Knowledge in BI and ETL platform and tools such as Informatica, Hadoop, Microsoft Power BI, Qlik and etc. will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge and implementation experience with DevOps tools such as Jenkin, Git, Kubernetes, Dockers and etc. will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of legacy SVN (Subversion) and DRS will be an advantage.
  • Practical hand on experience with MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL or other databases will be an advantage.
  • Experiences in procurement activities is an advantage.
  • Able to work with diversified group of stakeholders, high performing team and align to business objectives and outcomes.
  • Strong analytical ability and attention to detail with the ability to deep dive when required.
  • Self-motivated and results oriented with excellent analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Excellence verbal and written communication skills.
