The responsibilities of this role are:
 
The Industry Engagement and Partnerships division of the university is seeking a motivated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills to join its business development team as a Business Development Manager. The Business Development Manager will report to and support the Director, Industry Engagement and Partnerships, working in a small team to promote and enable research-related partnerships between the University and the industry. The primary role involves interacting closely with both internal and external stakeholders to facilitate and enable the University - industry research collaboration projects and programmes spanning multiple technical disciplines across the various faculties and research groups of the university.
  • Collaborate closely with the faculty management, faculty members and research groups to prepare research project/programme proposals, presentations, marketing materials and other documentations for industry engagement across a broad range of technical fields.
  • Advise and assist the faculty members and research groups on research-related internal policies and external research grant matters.
  • Work closely with University's legal, contracts, intellectual property, finance and other internal administrative functions to enable industry collaborations and research projects, programmes and other activities.
  • Engage and build relationships with external industry partners and research grant agencies to enable research partnerships between teh University and industry.
  • Negotiate and close research-related agreements with external industry partners, with support from the University's legal counsel, grant management and IP management teams.
 
Qualifications
 
  • Recognised Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical discipline.
  • Ability to appreciate and market technical content across a broad range of research fields while focusing on client requirements.
  • Superior presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to close deals.
  • Enhanced multi-tasking abilities to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong proficiency in Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Candidates with the following working expertise and/or experience will be favourably considered: -
  1. Research and/or business sales, marketing or related functions, especially in computer science, life science, human health or similar fields;
  2. Contracts negotiation, especially for research-related agreements; and/or
  3. Intellectual property.
