  JOB DESCRIPTION Our client, a tertiary education institute, is currently looking for a Lead Professional Officer/ Senior Professional Officer (UAV)  to join their esteemed organisation!

We work with teaching programmes and innovation projects to improve the skills of our students and strengthen and energise our industry and the wider community. 
A Professional Officer has a combination of job responsibilities relating to the following: mentor and facilitate student learning, participate in and manage innovation projects and manage laboratory resources.
For this role, experience in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Technology and latest Internet of Things (IOT) technologies will be required. 

The roles and responsibilities of this role include:
  • Mentor students during practical learning activities to enhance their technical problem-solving skills.  The learning activities may be laboratory classes, projects or IWSP. Proposal and development of (online) learning activities and assessment of students may form part of the responsibilities.
  • Support research and industrial project work undertaken by the university, where opportunity arises.
  • Work with the faculty in developing, designing and planning of laboratory facilities designated for teaching and research activities in the area of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs/Drones) and latest Internet of Things (IOT) technologies. Provide training on usage of a range of UAVs and other laboratory equipment to students or other lab users.
  • Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Know the latest trends in the UAV sector and take charge of the procurement of lab equipment and consumables as well as liaison with vendors/suppliers.
  • Identify Lab space for equipment and student project usage.
  • Engage with industry partners to demonstrate the capabilities of UAV laboratory and other facilities.
  • Ensure safety standard in the lab complies with WSH and CAAS Regulations.
  • For those hired at senior levels, management responsibilities may be included.

The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:
  • Have at least 10 years of work experience in Aerospace Industry.  Prior experience in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV/Drone) Technology is required with specific experience in:
  1. Operating UAVs (essential) and demonstrated interest in UAVs in general, e.g. designing and building of UAVs (desirable).
  2. Implementing robotic systems using Robotic Operating System (ROS).
  3. Programming using Python and C/C++ on embedded systems and companion computers (Raspberry Pi or Odroid).
  4. Experience in developing flight control systems for UAVs.
  5. CAD modelling and 3D printing of drone parts.
  6. Integrations of different sensors for vision-based navigation.
  • Have a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related fields. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will be advantageous.
  • Passionate about training, coaching and mentoring junior practitioners.
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
  • Flexibility to work across functions/teams as part of a team in a dynamic environment
  • Self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development
  • Proficient in technical writing and presentation
  • Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Show strong initiative and take ownership of work
  • Possess ability to establish work priorities and perform work with minimum supervision
