The roles and responsibilities of this role include:

As a Professional Officer, you play a key role in enabling applied learning and industry innovation at the University.  You will mentor and facilitate student learning to enhance their technical problem-solving skills and increase their preparedness for the industry. You will have the opportunity to participate in and manage innovation projects or research activities in collaboration with academic staff and industry partners.  You will help design, set up and manage laboratories to ensure that resources are in place to facilitate learning and innovation.
  • Mentor students during practical learning activities to enhance their technical problem-solving skills.  The learning activities may be laboratory classes, projects or IWSP.  Development of learning activities and assessment of students may form part of the responsibilities.
  • Support research and industrial project work were undertaken by the university, where the opportunity arises.
  • Work with the faculty in designing, planning and the continuous development of the laboratory facilities designated for teaching and research activities in the area. Provide training to students on the use of laboratory equipment.
  • Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
  • Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
  • Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • For those hired at senior levels, management responsibilities may be included.

 
In order to be successful for this role, the candidate must possess the following competencies and experience:
  • Have deep, hands-on competence in the areas of patient handling & transfers, mobility training, kinesiology, neurologic or orthopedic rehabilitation etc.
  • Have at least 5 years of work experience in the physical rehabilitation setting.
  • Have a degree in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy or any related Allied Health disciplines from a recognised University. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with a simulated environment such as educational manikins will be advantageous
  • Passionate about training, coaching and mentoring junior practitioners.
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
  • Flexibility to work across functions/teams as part of a team in a dynamic environment
  • Self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development
  • Proficient in technical writing and presentation
  • Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Show strong initiative and take ownership of work
