The responsibilities of this role are:  

The Principal Professional Officer provides thought leadership in either industry-led student learning, innovation and/or laboratory resource management. With a background of a senior industry practitioner, the Principal Professional Officer also contributes to the Division’s management as    Senior Lead. In the leadership appointment, the Principal Professional Officer ensures readiness of the Division resources (manpower, laboratory, equipment) to deliver to programmes, industry innovation and centralised lab resource management, or leads the development and growth of technical competencies of POs to ensure that POs are effective in delivering to programmes, industry innovation and centralised resource management.

Key responsibilities :-
  • Primary responsibilities in any of three functions of student learning, industry innovation and laboratory resource management. These responsibilities include develop hands-on pedagogies that can enhance student learning, lead large industry projects and/or drive university-wide strategies to increase effectiveness and efficiency of labs.
  •  Spearhead technical consultations in relevant discipline areas and provide high-quality expert input?
  • Create new technology capabilities that can impact student learning and industry innovation?
  • Contribute to the setting of strategic direction, planning, communication and implementation of strategic initiatives of PO Division.
  • Establish, build and nurture a close and collaborative relationship with management, faculty and colleagues from other divisions
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Team members
  • Maintain a safe learning environment for students and users of centralised lab facilities
  • Perform administrative duties
  • Engage in student learning and applied research activities where opportunity exists.
  • Represent PO Division in related faculty cluster meetings.

The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:
  • At least 20 years industry experience
  •  Experience in tertiary training/education sector is highly advantageous
  •  A PhD qualification in a science, engineering or technology discipline
  •  Proven track record in performing and leading lab-based industry R&D (as reflected in patents, publications, conference appearance)
  •  Have led research or technical teams of at least 25 members
  •  Have experience in planning, design, set-up as well as operation of laboratories
  •  Has strong administrative skills, with track record in developing policies and management systems as well as driving implementation of strategies
  •  Has track record and capability for continuous learning
  •  Has track record of flexible and open-mindedness as evidenced by leadership in new initiatives 
  • Demonstrates strong domain mastery/skills in a relevant technical area
  • Demonstrates ability to make sound and well-informed decisions, understanding their impact and implications
  • Demonstrates ability to develop and set up management systems
  • Able to manage and lead a large group of technical employees 
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
  • Shows consistent excellence in applying domain mastery/skills across multiple projects and/or organizations 
  • Able to develop and design activities and assessments to facilitate learner learning
  • Able to provide strategic directions to the type and scope of work that is relevant to the industry and society 
  • Demonstrates proficiency in delivering large projects involving multiple stakeholders, meeting safety, quality, schedule and budget requirements
  • Able to develop policies, procedures and/or framework on centralised lab management 
  • Able to develop effective safety policies and procedures
