  JOB DESCRIPTION Our client is actively searching for a PO, Chemical Engineering to join their team!

The responsibilities of this role are:
  • The Professional Officer acts as a first line mentor to SIT’s students on hands-on and practical activities such as labs, student projects and Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP) to enhance the students’ technical problem-solving skills and increase their preparedness for the industry.   
  • You will mentor students during hands-on projects and laboratory activities to enhance their practical problem-solving skills.  This may involve conduct of relevant practical activities as well as supervision of students in their projects and laboratory assignments as a part of applied learning.  Assessment of students may form part of the responsibilities.
  • You will guide students to navigate the industry environment during their IWSP.
  • You may participate in industry project/s together with faculty and students when opportunities arise.
  • You will be required to plan and design lab experiments as well as the development of lab manual
  • You will maintain laboratory equipment.
  • You will procure and manage all relevant consumables required for the programme.
  • You need to carry out associated risk assessments and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations in the laboratory. 

The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar from a recognized university. A postgraduate degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant industrial experience in a pharmaceutical or chemical process environment.
  • Have a strong ability in molecular biology and downstream processing.
  • Experience in Filtration and Chromatography techniques is highly desirable.
  • Experience and commitment in supervising/ training of student lab activities and projects
  • Self-motivated team player and good project management skills
  • Passionate about training, coaching and mentoring junior practitioners. 
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
  • Flexibility to work across functions/teams as part of a team in a dynamic environment
  • Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Show strong initiative and take ownership of work
