  JOB DESCRIPTION Our client, a higher education institution, is looking for a Director/Deputy Director (Operations) to join their esteemed organization. If you are a dynamic individual seeking a new career opportunity, read further!

The roles and responsibilities of this role include:
He/She is responsible for advising and responding to the concerns and directions of the Head of Department on financial, legal, administrative and audit matters. He/She will work with management to plan and provide IT infrastructure that is proactive, responsive, efficient and reliable to provide to support evolving fundraising needs. In addition, he/she will promote a culture of continuous evaluation of services and processes to facilitate and assist in developing and implementing enhancements in efficiency and effectiveness.
Financial Management
  • Manage and oversee all financial and business planning activities, including:
    • direct and administer all financial plans
    • oversee business policies and accounting practices
    • review and analyse financial reports
    • lead and support department budgeting process
  • Develop finance organizational strategies by contributing financial and accounting information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic direction.
  • Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results; initiate corrective actions; minimise the impact of variances.
Compliance and Risk Management
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the department’s risk profile, including all compliance, risk management and legal activities; e.g. letters of agreement, contract, leases and other legal documents and agreements.
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems; ensure that the department complies with all legal and regulatory requirements as well as policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • To develop and maintain Business Continuity plan and to implement measures designed to safeguard the department’s needs in the event of major incidents or disasters.
  • Oversee business insurance, including procurement, monitoring and management.
  • Responsible for all administrative functions to ensure smooth daily operations of the office, including maintenance and optimal use of physical space, office supplies, office equipment/assets.
  • Review existing business operations to reduce redundancies in processes to accomplish significant improvements in operational excellence, e.g. productivity, quality, response time, compliance, etc.
Technology Solutions
  • Manage day to day technology operations (including data security) and implementation of IT systems and policies, ensuring that planning, end-user impact, change management, quality and risk management are properly addressed to ensure that deadlines, budgets and service levels are met and results delivered.
  • Analyze business requirements to determine the department’s technology needs.
  • Manage the development and implementation of IT projects.
  • Work with VP EID to provide staff support and guidance to the Development Committee (DVC) and act as staff liaison to relevant board committees.

In order to be successful for this role, the candidate must possess the following competencies and experience:
  • A good university degree in Finance, Business, Accounting or Economics or related discipline
  • At least 10 years’ relevant working experience at a management level in a large corporation, with experience partnering with an executive team
  • Ability to think strategically and follow through on successful implementation of plans
  • Ability to perform well under pressure of time and frequent requests from multiple sources
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
