  JOB DESCRIPTION Our client, a specialist provider of solutions in medicial devices, is searching for a Category Manager to join their team. This role is a constructive step forward for anyone looking for excitement and challenges at work.

The Category Management team works closely with the New Product Introduction (NPI) team within GSA to support Product Development requirements, identify category opportunities and facilitate continuous improvement outcomes. The Category Manager also collaborates with the Supplier Quality Engineering and Supplier Development teams to ensure suppliers continue to meet the required quality and delivery standards.

The Category Manager is part of the GSA team and focusses on strategic sourcing activities, supply base development and relationship management pertaining to direct production materials and indirect spend for company business. This function includes providing direction to the wider company business for supplier relationships and technologies used within the supply chain that maintains or establishes a technology, quality and cost leadership position.

The responsibilities of this role encompasses:
  • Global Supplier Alliance (GSA) is responsible for delivering sustainable value, operational excellence and innovation from the supply base to the global company organisation through internal and external collaboration.
  • Develop category management strategies in assigned commodity groups to guide company interactions with external partners, taking into consideration (but not limited to) business needs, technology developments, cost, supplier performance, risk management.
  • Ensure that category management strategies maintain or establish a technology, quality and cost leadership position for company while ensuring sustainability through ongoing strategy renewals.
  • Communicate and drive alignment of category management strategies with stakeholders across company.
  • Ensure supply chain continuity and procurement of direct materials are adequately supported to achieve appropriate customer service levels and optimal procurement outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities for long term relationships/partnerships and alliances within the commodity supply base.
  • Implement and manage contractual arrangements. Facilitate or lead negotiations with strategic suppliers.
  • Promote internal stakeholder awareness of procurement processes and promote compliance with procurement best practices.
  • Lead or participate in supplier planning, evaluation, selection, acceptance and monitoring in conjunction with company Quality Management System.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of company Quality system to work within established policies and procedures. Identify opportunities for process improvement and facilitate team engagement in related continuous improvement activities.
  • Category Analysis and reporting.
  • Project development and reporting.

The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience: 
  • Advanced negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic partner relationships.
  • People Management Skills.
  • Oracle business information system, Objective document management system, Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook/IE.
  • The ability to engage and influence vertically and horizontally with stakeholders across company is crucial in ensuring category management strategies are adopted and meet business needs.
  • Effective negotiation and supply base management is required to ensure company maintains a competitive advantage in a changing global environment.
  • Position requires advanced knowledge of technical elements in order to effectively engage with stakeholders and facilitate optimal supplier and project outcomes.
  • Degree qualification in Textile/Fashion Materials, Engineering, Science or related Business discipline.
  • Category management or procurement experience.
  • Experience in assessing and sourcing and new textile material technologies.
  • Developed a wide network into fabric suppliers and textiles research agency/ institutes in the SE Asia region.
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes of fibre, yarn, fabric, foam, and secondary processes such as dyeing, printing, die-cut, ultrasonics welding and sewing.
  • Experience in dealing with elastic (stretchable) and breathable textiles and products with high intimacy such as inner wear, sport wear, shoes and medical purpose garments preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a category management or strategic procurement role.
  • A strong track record of cross functional stakeholder management in a technology driven product development or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge in fabric-foam lamination.
  • Knowledge in dealing with Intellectual Property.
  • An understanding of textile product and process development within the medical industry.
